OpenMod and RocketMod/Rocket.Unturned are plugin systems used by Unturned servers. They can add extra commands, permissions, moderation tools and custom server features.
CLWHost Unturned servers include Rocket.Unturned by default through our Wisp egg.
For most customers, start with the default Rocket.Unturned setup.
Only use OpenMod if a specific plugin requires OpenMod.
Rocket.Unturned, often called RocketMod, is a plugin framework that many Unturned server owners and plugins still use.
The CLWHost Unturned egg includes Rocket.Unturned, so it is the default plugin route on our Unturned servers.
OpenMod is another plugin framework. Some newer or specific plugins may require OpenMod instead of Rocket.Unturned.
OpenMod can be useful, but it is not required for a simple Unturned server.
Choose based on the plugins you want to use.
If a plugin says it needs RocketMod or Rocket.Unturned, use the default CLWHost setup.
If a plugin says it needs OpenMod, contact CLWHost support or follow the OpenMod guide.
Do not assume a RocketMod plugin will work on OpenMod, or that an OpenMod plugin will work on RocketMod.
| Feature | Rocket.Unturned | OpenMod |
|---|---|---|
| Included with CLWHost egg | Yes | No, optional |
| Best for | Rocket-compatible plugins | OpenMod-compatible plugins |
| Beginner friendly | Easier on CLWHost | More advanced |
| Plugin compatibility | RocketMod/Rocket.Unturned plugins | OpenMod plugins |
| Recommended default | Yes | Only if needed |
Avoid mixing plugin frameworks unless you know exactly what you are doing. Running multiple plugin systems can make troubleshooting harder and may cause conflicts.
If you are new to Unturned hosting, use the default CLWHost setup first.
If you want a specific plugin, check whether it requires Rocket.Unturned or OpenMod. If you are unsure, send CLWHost support the plugin link and we can advise which setup is best.
